Can dry cold weather give you a sore throat?

can a change in temperature cause dry sore throat and dry skin? i was in taiwan for 2 months and its very warm and humid and moist over there, you can't get dry skin over there but i came back home to america last friday and i realized its very cold and windy and chilly and so much more dry than it was in taiwan. and i live in california. i've had a sore throat for 3 days it also feels dry, but its not that serious. what is this reason? thanks for you answer.
